“Let’s make a collage.”
I don’t know exactly where the idea came from, but I uttered those words one rainy afternoon in 2019 to my then four-year-old. We did indeed make a collage. And that day, everything changed. That moment of spontaneous creativity set something in motion that I haven't been able to stop since. It was the beginning of a process of discovery—about art, about life, and about myself.
Conjuring beauty from found paper.
My abstract analog collages are handmade, carefully cut and pieced together from found materials such as secondhand books, magazines, and photographs. I’m drawn to upcycling materials already in existence, because it’s a reminder to me that you can take whatever you have been given and create something beautiful.
At its core, my work is about transformation.
The act of creatively transforming found paper into colorful abstract worlds, as well as the transformation of self. It’s mysterious, impressive and inexplicable, but I am changed by the process of creating something, and that reminds me of the inherent creative power I have in my own everyday life.
My creative practice is fueled by three ideas:
making things is magic, the things that we create also create us and the process is the point. Making my art gives me an enormous sense of safety, pleasure and peace. And I hope that it makes you feel the same.
